Family Day Extended Cut!

After a year of seeing Cameron's picture we finally were able to hold his little hands. Today was family day number 2.  We kind of shy away from the gotcha day term, just makes us feel like we stole him or something!  So we go with family day.  Lainey's is coming up next week actually.  We'll have to decide if we want to celebrate both together or keep them separate like birthdays essentially.  But on to today!  8 families piled on to a bus and made the drive just about 15  minutes away.  It was the same building we went 5 years ago.  The room is very much the same.  White walls, a few leather couches, a desk, and a small kids play area, all in a 20 story government building with armed guards.

As soon as we walked in one family received their child and then another and another.  There were also 3 families not with our travel group that had their forever child.  All but us!  Its just I guess since we were given Lainey as soon as we walked in five years ago.  And we waited some more.  Finally as the others were finishing up paper work a lady in a pink nurses uniform walked in carrying a boy all bundled up with an orange coat to big for his body.  His hands weren't even sticking out of the arm holes!  It was our Jing as they named him, our Cameron as we did.

He made it pretty clear he didn't want to take any clothes off yet. And he wasn't real sure about me.  He stayed in Christina's arms and I held his hand a little but mostly he was interested in eating cheerios.  Those little round oh's were quite helpful to many of us.  Close to lunch time it was back to the hotel.  Naps to take, bottles to make and paperwork to complete.  Granpa Ferguson got to see first hand what all the tears, screams and smiles are all about.  Here's a look at some of the other families created today.

Back at the ranch it was time for some real food and a change of clothes.  Many kids seem to hit a reset button when you can get in a quieter spot and some new duds.  Cameron was still leery of me but with the help of some toys and Lainey he was soon feeding me Cheerios. Its a day all of us involved with will never let drift from our hearts.  Maybe, just maybe, these details will help guide another family to a little one looking for a forever family,
